Flyscreen Measuring Guide

See our measuring guides below:

Full window measuring

For full windows that open, the Screens are fitted to the existing frame therefore you will need to measure:

1: The frame – for hinged windows

2: The entire reveal – for sliding windows

The frame is marked as 1 in the image which is the surround to the glass.
The reveal is marked as 2 in the image which is the depth of the area the window is located in.

Please also measure the depth from the frame to the furthest part of the handle to ensure sufficient subframe is provided.

Please take all measurements in centimetres and millimetres and include photographs of all doors/windows that require a Flyscreen, internally and externally.

Please note –

All windows should be measured in 3 widths – top, middle and bottom and include the height also measured at 3 evenly spaced points.

Any obstructions to the window, pipe work, telephone cables, fire alarm call points, taps, racking, blinds, net curtains.

When measuring a window the measurements should always be listed Width first then height.

Fibreglass mesh is fitted as standard however stainless steel mesh or midge mesh can be fitted at an increased cost.

The frames can be in our standard white or can be RAL coded to match the building.

Partial window measuring

If only part of a window requires a screen you will only need to measure that section including the frame.

In the attached example, only two of these windows open, therefore you would measure the entire frame around this area marked in red.

Ensure you measure the depth of any handles too and take all measurements in centimetres and millimetres and include photographs of all doors/windows that require a Flyscreen.

Please note –

Doors

The door should be measured in 3 widths – top, middle and bottom and include the height, also measure at 3 evenly spaced points.

If a fire exit and the fire door has a push bar, the door will need to be double action.  Measure the height of the push bar from the floor. Please note how far the push bar sticks out from the door.  If there are any alarm sensors, is there a step?

PVC curtains

PVC curtains come in various options from single and double pedestrian doors through to industrial roller shutter sizes.

We also have a special range of perforated strip curtains along with PVC chill strips for fridges and polar grade curtains for freezers. Our PVC curtains come in different thicknesses and different ranges of overlaps depending on the application. The PVC used is UV stable, which means that it will remain durable in sunlight.

Measure the width and the height, in centimetres, note if there is anything suitable (steel) to fix the PVC curtain to above the door, this is only required for larger ribbed PVC curtains.

Please note –

Supply internal and external photos.

If there is no suitable fixing, then these can be installed at an extra cost.

For roller shutter doors we can also install a bespoke airflow system depending on the access required.

Ventilation screens

Measure the width and height of the ventilation system in centimetres and note any obstructions.

Please also provide photos of any vents that require screening.

Armaguard

Measure width and check there is anything to fix the sides of the Armaguard too.

Please note –

Door handles

Fit inside or outside

If being fitted outside and this is on a Public Highway, then permission may need to be obtained from the local Highways Authority.

If fixing on the inside the door MUST open out.

The frames can be in our standard white or can be RAL coded to match the building.

Arma-door

Arma-door is a heavy duty aluminium construction with robust flyscreen profiles. The door is fabricated from aluminium which is white polyester powder coated for internal and external use. The door comes complete with hinges and sub frame and can be designed to fit onto a standard door or an emergency fire exit escape door. A 50mm brush is fixed to the bottom of the door to stop crawling insects and to deter rodents entering. This door can be made lockable whilst still offering quick release for fire escapes.

Please note –

The door should be measured in 3 widths – top, middle and bottom and include the height, also measure at 3 evenly spaced points.
